Melissa & Nicole Di Nardo
July 8, 2010
Featuring selected works by Melissa and Nicole Di Nardo, Stranieri investigates the travels of two artists through Europe, on a cultural exploration. Through visual observations of cultures both foreign and familiar, these two artists employ a unique approach to photography and painting. Melissa's photographs, vibrantly coloured depictions of cultural beauty, reveal the powerful gaze of a traveler. They allow the viewer to travel with her and become intimate with Spanish tradition and natural beauty. Nicole's paintings are at once gestural and realistic as she executes an impasto technique to create art of everyday objects. A comment on the visual conversation between product and people, she frames brightly coloured encounters of the everyday. From grocery store shelves to back alley street markets, viewers will experience an uncanny 'ah-ha' moment.

Visceral Landscapes
Amanda Arcuri & Ana Kapodistria, CONTACT 2010
May 1 - May 16, 2010
Featuring photographs by Arcuri and Kapodistria, Visceral Landscapes explores intuitive connections between man and nature. Both artists engage in playful performances with their environments, reflecting on the rhythmic structures created through the interaction between figure and landscape. The figures' implied presence blurs the distinctions between what is natural and unnatural, balancing the temporality of performance with the physical constructs of nature.

Sara Salahub Still: Prairie Winters
March 2nd-31st, 2010
Armed with only a plastic medium format camera, Sara Salahub explores the vast, frozen, prairie landscape in her series entitled “Still.” The results were unique and unexpected; visible light leaks and double exposures were revealed and the colours turned out completely surreal. The landscapes that confronted her told their own stories in ways never expected.

Contact '09 Featuring Drew Williamson and Michel Jaques
Drew Williamson
Commercial Photographer, Drew Williamson will be exhibiting his photographs at Galleria 814 on St. Clair Avenue West throughout CONTACT, Toronto's Photography Festival. The Festival runs from May 1 to 31st inclusive. "Aerial Photographs" opening reception will be held on Saturday, May 9th, 2009 from 3-6 p.m.
"Aerial Photographs" is Williamson's first exhibit of a 10 year exploration into photographically representing how we can arrive at our beliefs. It is an invitation to join in the whimsical experience of suspending one’s beliefs to find “shapes in the clouds.” Williamson examines the potential for our beliefs to be manipulated either by ourselves or others.
By shifting the parameters under which the viewer experiences his photographs, Williamson explores the processes and self-imposed limitations we consciously or unconsciously choose in formulating our convictions.

Artist’s Statement
Waterworld – Eau de Vie
When I think of Waterworld - Eau de Vie, I sense freedom, movement, serenity, and “letting-go”. Seeing people floating in water, I am amazed and intrigued about how they could be suspended in a transparent substance that challenges the law of gravity. I always wonder how we defy gravity.
In this collection, I want to illustrate the movement of the body without action. I intentionally do not include faces in the photographs in order to focus on the shapes of the body. Contrasting shapes, shadows and body movement, I try to encapsulate the beauty of physical and emotional feelings submerged in water. To me, water evokes a range of beneficial sensation – a chillout, a relaxation, a rejuvenation, a time to oneself, a healing.Playing with different angles, both mental and physical, I want to show that we often take what we see for granted. However, everything is relative. Our personal experiences, angles of POVs and the essences of who we are as individuals influence our perspective on our subjects.
